I was given a flyer today by a work colleague that I believe was posted through letter boxes recently.
As my family, wife plus one of each m-18(at Stirling Uni), f-14(probably Chepstow Comp) and I are hoping to move to the village of Magor in August I thought it would be a good idea to join the forum and say Hi.
We currently live in Scotland, although I have worked in Bristol for the last 3 years and have commuted by easyjet most weekends, but due to the extension of my appointment with the RN for another 3 years in Bristol we decided now was the time to move the family south !!
We are all looking forward to the move, I am returning to my roots at last !!!
I am sure over the coming weeks we will have plenty of questions to ask (we've found the two village pubs already!!) and hope to meet up and make new friends after the move.
Admin,
If I have put this in the wrong forum area please let me know or move it as required
see you all soon

Welcome to the site (and eventually area). I'm originally from Newcastle myself and been living in langstone since 2000. I love being here, beautiful part of the country to be in.
You should find Bristol pretty easy to get to across the M4 bridge (although the toll is ?5.40!) but getting into Bristol itself from the M4 can be a nightmare during ther rush hour.

Thanks for reply. Yeah I know all about the traffic into Bristol...luckily I am at Abbeywood and so it is not too bad to there. I am in digs at Bradley Stoke at the moment until Family move down in August.
Forums are pretty quiet ? Is it always like this ??

Well i think its a great village you have everything you need - hairdressers, shops, post office (who go beyond in their service), doctors, dentist, variety of takeaways and some great walks.
Wish i could move back but i'll just commute for now lol
Welcome to our village Graham
This forum is pretty quiet ~ Our original community forum had a thriving online presence. Unfortunately, at the time, the village idiots forced it to be closed due to their irresponsible conduct. Lets hope this forum fares better.
Welcome again to you & your family

Hi mpj,
Many thanks for your reply. We are looking forward to the move, in fact we are popping in on Saturday morning to size up the rooms again to see where all the furniture will fit !!
Daughter has just been accepted at Chepstow Comp and is excited about that. We need work out bus route as I don't think she will be entitled to free bus transport.
My lad goes there, I'll PM you the contact details for the lady that organises the private bus.
The bus picks up from Withy close & a few stops throughout Undy
regards

Do you know what the original forum was doing different?
I still have over 1,000 leaflets left to distribute but it's a question of time. I've also got 100 A3 posters that I'll be asking local shops to display in their windows.
I do monitor posts closely and have several means of handling misuse so we shouldn't have any problems with inappropriate usage.
Hi Admin
At the time, I was the webmaster of the magorundy community council's website & primary admin / moderator of the "voicebox" forum hosted on this site.
The Magor / Undy broadband campaign that I ran with a friend back in about 2003 (hi Bagpuss :p) helped with initial visitors because we used the forum as a hub to co-ordinate our campaign activities. Many local residents would log onto the forum on a daily basis to monitor our campaign progress & the slowly forum came to life....
We set aside private and public areas for local schools, groups & organisations.
Unfortunately, after a while, the site also attracted the local 'kiddies' who thought that they could disrupt the forum by posting utter twaddle under numerous usernames & then complaining bitterly about freedom of speech when they were banned or had their posts moderated.
The final nail in the coffin for the forum was when the clerk to the CC said that after "watching an article on the Jeremy kyle show" she felt that the CC might be seen to be held responsible for any of the comments posted.
I closed & deleted the forum & then resigned as webmaster. The current community council site is now managed by the clerk using a templated website format provided by vision websites.
Now that facebook & myspace exist, anyone can post their ramblings there & have their own captive audience so I guess the "kiddies" won't bother you much on here.
There's a few names registered on here that I can remember from "voicebox" so who knows what the future holds ;)
Good luck

Hello there,
If you're RN, then I guess you're working at Abbeywood? There's a good direct train service from Severn Tunnel Junction (Rogiet) right into Abbeywood. Even if you have to come from Magor, it's easier then driving.
Driving to Abbeywood will take you 20 minutes to do the 20 minutes into Bristol, then another 20 minutes to get round the last roundabouts into Abbeywood itself!

I found out about the new website through Teeth for Life as they had a leaflet put through the door
