On the 6th August 2008, Tesco Stored Ltd, applied for planing permission with Monmoushie Council, ref: DC/2008/00853 (http://www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/F3CFC47F-A284-4677-9B87-4F044961E40A/0/mccdcapplicationregistrationlist2008wk32.pdf), details below:

Demolition of existing building, erection of convenience store and provision of nine car parking spaces and unloading bay.

Undy Service Station,
Main Road,
Undy

If this a good or bad thing?
Will it bring more choice to the consumer?

Personally I feel sorry for the shop already on the main road opposite teh police station. Budgins opening must have hurt it a bit but a Tesco a few yards down the road (on the same side of the road) will kill it stone dead.

On a not dissimilar subject find it ironic that Budgins, a 'franchise' of an Irish chain, is protesting about the Tesco store sighting the potential damage to local shops, when it was them who put an end to our local fruit and veg seller and must have eaten into Magor Wine Celler's profits with its group buying power and discounts.
